Privacy Policy
In short: Your incubation records stay on your device. To measure our advertising, deliver push notifications, and configure the app, we share a limited amount of technical data with third-party service providers. None of it is linked to your identity, and you can turn analytics off in Settings.
Your data stays on your device
Batch Companion is an egg-incubation tracker. The information you enter — batches, species, egg counts, candling results, hatch results, temperature and humidity readings, and notes — is stored only in the app on your iPhone. It is never uploaded, transmitted, or synced to any server, and we have no access to it. None of it is included in the data sharing described below.
No account required
The app has no sign-up, sign-in, or account system. We do not ask for your name, email address, or any other identifying information.
Data shared with service providers
We use a small number of third-party service providers to run the app. Acting on our behalf, they receive only limited technical data, never the incubation information you enter. Across all of them, the data shared is: a device or app-installation identifier, a push-notification token, your IP address (used transiently, for example to approximate region for attribution), device model and operating-system information, and app install and app-open (session) events. We use these providers for:
- Measuring our advertising. So we can tell whether an ad led to an install, without identifying you. This runs in a privacy-preserving mode that uses Apple's SKAdNetwork: it does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA), shows no App Tracking Transparency prompt, and does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
- Delivering push notifications. To send notifications, a push-delivery provider receives your device's push token and basic device information.
This data is not linked to your identity, and it is not used to track you across other companies' apps or websites. The app shows no ads, and we do not sell your data. Each provider processes the data on our behalf under its own privacy terms.
The app remains fully functional offline — when there is no network connection, none of this data is sent.
Your choices
You are in control:
- Advertising analytics. Settings includes an "Anonymous install analytics" toggle, on by default. Turning it off opts the device out, and the advertising measurement described above stops on subsequent launches.
- Push notifications. These are only sent if you allow notifications when asked. You can change this at any time in the iOS Settings app under Notifications for Batch Companion.
- Deleting the app stops all data collection and sharing.
Notifications
Your schedule reminders — turning reminders, candling alerts, lockdown warnings, hatch-day alerts, and the lock-screen Live Activity — are local features, scheduled and displayed entirely on your device; no notification data leaves your phone for these. Separately, the app can receive push notifications from us; delivering those uses the push provider and device push token described above, and they are only sent if you allow notifications.
In-app web pages
The Settings screen can open this Privacy Policy and our Support page in an in-app web view. They open only when you choose to, and load our public pages hosted on GitHub Pages. No personal data is sent with these requests.
Data deletion
Your incubation data lives only on your device, so deleting the app deletes all of it — there is nothing of it stored elsewhere. Our service providers retain the limited technical data described above in accordance with their own privacy terms; because that data is not linked to your identity, we cannot look up or delete records for a specific person.
Children's privacy
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The limited technical data described above is not used to identify anyone, child or adult.
Changes to this policy
If the app ever changes in a way that affects privacy, we will update this policy and its effective date on this page. Any version of the app that behaves differently from what is described here would be accompanied by an updated policy.
